China Needs to Improve Mobile Gaming Market

Zhao Jinmeng, secretary-general of the Beijing Software Industry Association (BSIA)'s educational and entertainment software division said yesterday at a mobile application awards ceremony that of the 10,000 mobile games launched in China each year, 90% are of inferior quality. Mobile carriers are aware of the issue, and have already reduced the number of games service providers can provide from 300 down to 50.

Mobile game users currently number less than 50 mln, and the entire market is currently worth RMB 100 mln.

Editor's Note: According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), by August 2008, Chinese mobile phone subscribers reached 616.0 mln.
