CCTV Program Investigates Baidu

Tencent Tech, 11/17/08

For two days this weekend, CCTV's News 30 program investigated online search firm Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) competitive search ranking and found plenty not to like - including fake medicines and websites for predatory fake clinics.

A source inside Baidu confirmed that the company had removed competitive search information for several of the keywords searched by the CCTV team immediately after the program aired on Saturday afternoon, and said that the company had begun to take steps to overhaul its competitive search ranking service to strengthen oversight. The company may also weed out problematic clients.
