China Mobile, Telecom Announce January 2009 Subscriber Totals

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) and China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) have announced their new subscriber totals for January 2009.
China Mobile added about 6.7 mln new mobile subscribers to reach 463.9 mln.
China Telecom, running large-scale CDMA promotions, added over 1.0 mln new subscribers for a total of 28.9 mln. China Telecom lost 970,000 fixed-line users, dropping its total to 207.4 mln, but added 760,000 broadband subscribers for a total to 45.0 mln.
