Tencent Tech, 2/25/09

Chinese PC and laptop manufacturer Lenovo (0992.HK) has announced that it will lay off 450 employees in China. The cuts will be made mainly in its global operations department. Lenovo will begin its corporate restructuring this week, which is expected to be completed within 3 months.

Editor's Note: The restructuring plan includes the reduction of both head count and executive compensation, consolidation of China and Asia Pacific organizations into a new Asia Pacific and Russia (APR) business unit, and the relocation of its call center operations from Toronto, Canada to Morrisville, North Carolina.

A total of 2,500 workers worldwide will be laid-off.
