Rumor: Lenovo to Acquire Taiwan PC Vendor

Sina Tech, 7/15/10

According to Taiwan media reports, Chinese PC maker Lenovo (0992.HK) has set its sights on Tatung Group's Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), hoping to acquire more than half of the company's equity at a price "slightly lower than net value," for a transaction ranging in the billions of RMB.

ECS denied the reports on July 14, adding that this rumor had already emerged late last year, but that neither party had engaged in negotiation towards a merger.

Rumors late last year said that Lenovo aimed to acquire a third of ECS's shares at a price of RMB 15.6 per share for a total of roughly RMB 6 bln.
