Rumor: Shanda to Launch Open Platform for Game Companies

An industry source has reported that Shanghai-based online game and entertainment firm Shanda Interactive (Nasdaq: SNDA) will launch a new open platform in late August or early September. Game developers who sign on to use the Shanda platform will be able to make use of Shanda's user resources and billing channels, call center, promotional incentives, and loyalty point systems, among other services, and to receive help from Shanda in better promoting their own game products. The platform will initially be open to small and medium-sized online game developers, later expanding to admit major game developers.

Editor's Note: Shanda currently has opened the official website for the platform (open.sdo.com), but has not yet made any services available.
