Chinese Government Calls for Lower Fixed-Line Tariffs

Beijing Daily, 11/17/10

The Department of Price Supervision (DPS) of China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) recently issued a written suggestion regarding the "gradual lowering of fixed-line monthly fees," stating that a certain amount of space should be left for fixed-line monthly fees to be lowered. The DPS also presented adjustment plan options for monthly fixed-line fees, including possibly charging users who place and receive more calls slightly higher monthly plan fees but reducing or waiving per-call fees, while charging users who place and receive fewer calls slightly higher per-call fees, but lowering or waiving monthly plan fees.
