Rumor: LG Display Halts 8.5G LCD Panel Plant Construction

Netease Tech, 8/29/11

LG Display (LGD) has notified Chinese authorities that the ground-breaking ceremony for its 8.5G LCD panel production facility in Guangzhou has been canceled, according to recent Korean media reports. It is unclear whether construction will begin before the end of this year. LG Display is concerned that the market is becoming saturated, leading to an oversupply problem.

Lu Renbo, undersecretary of the China Electronics Chamber of Commerce (CECC), said that LGD may abandon 8.5G and shift its focus back to OLED panel production.
