Rumor: China's TV Advertising Rates Up 15-20%

Opinion.china.com.cn, 1/18/12

TV advertising rates on several of China's leading TV stations, including China Central Television (CCTV), Jiangsu Satellite TV, and Hunan Satellite TV, have recently increased 15-20%, according to an industry source, while total ad time has dropped 40%. Ads during TV dramas account for more than 70% of TV stations' total revenue. However, the higher TV ad rates cannot fully compensate for losses due to State Administration of Radio, Film and Television's (SARFT) new regulations prohibiting ad breaks during TV dramas, and TV stations must seek additional alternative revenue streams.
