Sina Tech, 2/23/12

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) Telecommunications Research Institute has released a report stating that China had over 51.21 mln TD-SCDMA users as of the end of 2011, of which nearly 30% were wireless wireline phone users. Network utilization rates by wireless wireline users were comparatively low - on average only 20 MB of monthly data usage per user. The average user experience on TD-SCDMA, the 3G standard employed by China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK), is not as good as that on the other two 3G standards, WCDMA, used by China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH), and CDMA2000 EV-DO, used by China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK).
