Rumor: Founder to Provide PCBs for iPhone 5

Cecb2b, 7/30/12

Beijing-based PC and peripherals manufacturer Founder Technology Group (600601.SH) may supply Apple with printed circuit boards (PCBs) for the iPhone 5 slated for release in late September, according to a source within Apple. The rumor has yet to be confirmed.

Apple previously sourced its PCBs from various local suppliers worldwide, but its PCB outsourcing supplier in Wuhan ceased operations last year due to pollution concerns and was the subject of an investigation this April. If Apple selects Founder as its new PCB supplier, industry insiders believe it may be due to concerns over its existing supply chain.

Founder Group received national approval to utilize X-Static technology in its PCB manufacturing process, which not only prevents damage to the system, but also substantially reduces the number of components required and frees up space for other functionality and applications.
