90% of China Telecom's Mobile Reading Users Access Via Handsets

A spokesperson for China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) E-Surfing Reading base revealed today that the E-Surfing Reading service currently supports handset, PC, e-reader, and IPTV devices, with handset users accounting for more than 90% of total users. The base's WAP service accounts for the largest portion of handset users, while about 20% of users access reading materials through various mobile applications. The most common form of payment used for e-books was cell phone top-up cards, although payments from third-party payment processors such as Alipay are growing.
