MIIT, Ministry of Finance Release 2012 M2M Subsidy Project List

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and Ministry of Finance (MoF) have jointly released their 2012 list of M2M (Internet of Things) development subsidy projects. UHF and microwave RFID chip design, product technology R&D, miniaturized intelligent sensor technology R&D, ad-hoc networking technology for wireless sensor networks, intelligent logistics, and intelligent traffic are among the 14 categories of project, comprising 149 projects in total, which will receive support from the government.
China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) Tianyi E-Commerce's RFID dual-frequency (2.45 GHz and 13.56 GHz) smart card project and information security and telecom chip maker Nationz Technologies' (300077.SZ) UHF RFID-based ticketing project for the Guangdong-Shenzhen railway system will receive funding support. Projects from companies including Datang Telecom (600198.SH), RFID manufacturer Invengo Information Technology (002161.SZ), software provider Neusoft (600718.SH), traffic solutions and monitoring software maker Shanghai Baosight (600845.SH), and Hangzhou-based video surveillance solution provider Hikvision Digital Technology (002415.SZ) were also listed.
The MIIT and MoF have not yet provided details on the amount of funding that will be offered to supported projects, but industry speculation holds that the total could be as much as RMB 1.6 bln. Government plans call for a total of RMB 5 bln to be issued in funding for M2M development projects during the course 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015). In 2011, approximately 110 companies split RMB 500 mln in government funding for the first batch of M2M projects.
