Spreadtrum Q3 2012 Profit Falls 40% YoY

Chinese wireless baseband chipset provider Spreadtrum Communications (Nasdaq: SPRD) has announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2012. Q3 2012 was USD 187.9 mln, up 8.5% QoQ and 1.7% YoY.

Q3 2012 net income was USD 23.2 mln, up 10.5% QoQ from USD 21.0 mln in Q2 2012 and down 41.0% YoY from USD 39.3 mln in Q3 2011.

For the quarter, smartphone products accounted for 37% of chipset revenue, and feature phone and other products accounted for 63% of chipset revenue.

Spreadtrum recognized sales of 11 mln 1GHz TD-SCDMA & EDGE Android smartphone chipsets for the quarter. The company will begin shipping 40nm GPRS/GSM basebands for Samsung 2.5G handsets starting in the fourth quarter.

Spreadtrum expects revenue for the fourth quarter of 2012 to be in the range of USD 189 mln to USD 196 mln.
