Sharp Reduces Handset Product Line in China to 3-5 Models

Southern Metropolitan News has reported it found the number of Sharp handset models available in Guangzhou retail outlets has dropped to 3-5, with prices down below RMB 2,000.

Sharp launched its first self-branded smartphone, produced by Taiwanese contract manufacturer Hon Hai (i.e. Foxconn), in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and mainland China, in October 2012.

Sharp reported losses of JPY 387.58 bln (RMB 30.2 bln) for the six-month period from April 1 to September 30, 2012, nearly ten-fold the loss reported in the same period of 2011.
