Rumor: Yunyun to Power Sina Microblog Search Service

36Kr, 11/30/12

An industry source claims that the search engine for Chinese internet company Sina's (Nasdaq: SINA) Weibo microblogging service will incorporate results from social search engine Yunyun.com's microblog search channel. According to the source, the new search service may debut initially in mobile Weibo clients.

The search engine that would be replaced by the move is in fact already being used in Yunyun's own app, "Weibo Dingyue" ("Weibo Subscriptions"). After Sina transitions to the new search service, search results will display posts from other microblogging platform, though for the time being these will not appear on the first page of results. Sina Weibo will also switch to Yunyun for its web-based microblog search, but no timetable for the switch is currently known.

Sina reportedly invested an eight-figure sum in Yunyun.com during the early stages of its development. Much of Yunyun's founding team is comprised of Google China alumni.
