Chengdu Positions to Become M-Commerce Model City

The Chengdu municipal government held a signing ceremony today for a framework agreement with China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) and Chinese banking network China UnionPay covering strategic partnerships to promote the development of mobile e-commerce in Chengdu as part of efforts to make the city a model for mobile e-commerce development. Under the new agreement, China Mobile will provide major support for the development of Chengdu as an m-commerce model city, and China UnionPay will continue construction on its Chengdu-based m-commerce demonstration base and electronic ticketing services innovation center projects. China UnionPay and China Mobile will integrate their resources for coordinated development and expansion of public service and market applications for m-commerce, and will work to improve the mobile payment environment in Chengdu and improve urban and rural service offerings. The Chengdu municipal government will open its public services platform, offer policy support, and ensure a favorable governmental environment for the initiatives.
