Baidu Map Introduces Outdoor Scene View Feature

CCID, 12/14/12

Chinese internet company Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) Baidu Maps product recently introduced a 360-degree panoramic view feature for outdoor locations, adding real-life street-level imagery to the service's existing landmark and address map information.

Searches for Hong Kong locales including Statue Square and Ocean Park, for instance, will allow users to look at 360-degree panoramas of the popular tourist destinations in order to get a sense of the location before they set out. The photographic panorama feature is also capable of searching inside buildings.

Thus far, Baidu Maps' Flash-based 360-degree panoramas cover venues in more than 30 categories - including tourist destinations, parks, museums, office buildings, and lifestyle service businesses - in 20 cities around China. Baidu Maps will expand coverage to more cities in the future, and will broaden its offerings within existing areas of coverage to allow users to look "inside" cafes or KTV venues.
