Rumor: MIIT to Issue VNO Licenses in Mid-2013

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) may issue virtual network operator (VNO) licenses by June 2013, according to an industry source. Companies that receive a license will be allowed to offer basic telecommunications services over the Internet or leased telecom operator networks. Companies such as Tencent (0700.HK) will reportedly be among the first batch of recipients.
