MIIT Announces November 2012 Telecom Statistics

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its November 2012 telecom industry statistics. The figures for the month were as follows:

Telecom operating revenues were RMB 99.73 bln (USD 16.01 bln), bringing the cumulative year-to-date total to RMB 1096.39 bln (USD 175.99 bln), up 11.8% over the same 11-month period of 2011. Core services accounted for RMB 983.37 bln (USD 157.84 bln) of the cumulative total, up 9.1% YoY. Year-to-date capital expenditure came to RMB 283.99 bln (USD 45.58 bln), a 6.9% year-on-year increase.

Total telephone subscribers saw a net increase of 7.83 mln in November to reach 1.384 bln. Mobile subscribers grew by 8.80 mln to 1.104 bln, and fixed-line subscribers dropped by 965,000 to 279.38 mln. Broken down by traditional fixed-line and PHS, the traditional (i.e. non-PHS) fixed-line subscriber base decreased by 608,000 to 266.71 mln, while the PHS subscriber base declined by 357,000 subs to 12.67 mln. 8.07 mln new 3G subscribers were added in November to reach a total 3G user base of 220.49 mln.

A total of 70.29 bln SMS messages were sent during the month of November, bringing the total for the first 11 months of 2012 to 818.73 bln, a 2.3% increase over the figure during the same period of 2011.

Broadband added 1.53 mln new registered users in November to reach a total of 174.03 mln. Dial-up decreased by 9,000 users, reducing the total dial-up user base to 5.72 mln.
