MIIT to Issue 4G Licenses in 2013

Miao Wei, head of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), stated yesterday during the National People's Congress meeting in Beijing that the ministry expects to issue 4G licenses in 2013.

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) chairman Xi Guohua has previously stated that full commercial launch of 4G services is drawing increasingly closer, and that results of current 4G network trials have been excellent. Chang Xiaobing, chairman of China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH), expressed the hope that the government would issue 4G licenses as soon as possible.
