MIIT Releases China's Feb 2024 Fixed-Line, Mobile User Totals by Province

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released statistics detailing the country's total number of fixed-line telephone subscribers (registered accounts) and mobile subscribers by province as of the end of February 2024. China finished the month with over 172 mln fixed-line subs and 1.746 bln mobile subs. Starting from the February 2024 iteration, the MIIT began including China Broadnet's 5G mobile handset subscribers in its monthly telecom industry statistics.
Among total mobile subs, 5G handset subs accounted for 851.2 mln, or 48.8%.
The five provinces with the highest penetration of 5G handset subs among their respective mobile subscriber bases were Qinghai with 55.6%, followed by Ningxia (54.7%), Guangdong (52.4%), Hainan (52.3%), and Henan (51.4%). The five provinces with the lowest penetration of 5G handset subs among their respective mobile subscriber bases were Shanghai (43.7%), Liaoning (44.9%), Heilongjiang (45.4%), Guangxi (45.7%), and Shandong (46.0%).
The five provinces accounting for the greatest proportion of China's total 5G handset subs, or 35.8% combined, were Guangdong (10.6%), Henan (6.7%), Shandong (6.6%), Jiangsu (6.4%), and Zhejiang (5.6%).
