At the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) deployment meeting for broadband upgrades in Beijing on March 30, China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) chairman Chang Xiaobing said that the operator plans to add 9 mln new home broadband subscribers in 2012, and to increase the prevalence of 4 Mbps or faster connections to more than 50% and up to 60% of its subscribers within the year, as well as promoting the adoption of 10 Mbps to 20 Mbps connections in urban markets while greatly increasing broadband adoption and raising broadband speeds for rural households.   Read More...
